In the #EndPolioNOW #Rotary campaign we always say #WeAreTHISclose because we have reduced polio cases by 99.9% and we are so close to preventing anyone from ever having to suffer from it again!!!!!! Isn´t it incredible?

In 1988 when Rotary and its partners formed the GPEI there were 350.000 cases in 125 countries every single year. Today, just two countries continue to report cases of wild poliovirus: Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I find it funny how most people think this disease was eradicated ages ago because, no, it´s still active, it still affects children and their future and we are still working and doing everything we can to stop it.

Today, only one day away from celebrating the #Purplepinkyday on October 24th I couldn´t be prouder of being a part of this organization… of realizing that #servetochangelives is not only a slogan for this year, is really our life philosophy, wherever we may be in the world.

Today I celebrate that this week, yes, THIS week, the GPEI got the greenlight to resume house-to-house vaccination campaigns in Afghanistan which had been halted for over three years. Starting November 8, the campaigns will target over 3.3 million children in parts of the country that were previously inaccessible.

I´m absolutely certain that this goal, that several generations and SO many people have been working towards in the last 33 years will be accomplished VERY soon.
